Pig Out: Kettle

Okay so I haven't blogged here for some time. What better to start re-blogging than by writing about food? Yay!

Last week we were able to try the new restaurants in Shangri-La Plaza's East Wing, and might I say there are A LOT of interesting dining destinations there. Take this one for example, easily one of my favorites, Kettle.

See what we tried!

Well, we started with Baked Brie that disappeared even before I realized I haven't taken a picture yet. Ooops!
Shrimp Po'Boy
Oh boy, Cajun breaded shrimps in a soft ciabatta roll drizzled with spicy mustard with a side of sweet potato fries. Divine!

Buttermilk Fried Chicken
Soft, tender fried chicken that comes with country gravy and cajun honey and a side of honey glazed cornbread. Easily everyone's favorite!

Steak & Marrow
Absolutely to die for (for sharing if not "of") 450 grams of US Prime Ribeye Steak and Herb Crusted Marrow that is too sinful!

Hefty in portions and in flavors, this is definitely a place I'll be bringing family and friends to!

Pig Out: RUB Ribs and BBQ

Okay so over the weekend we were finally able to try a new restaurant in the neighborhood, which always seems to be full. Curious as we are, we got ourselves a table.

True enough, as soon as we seated ourselves (on the last available table at that!) a party of eight came in, followed by either twosomes or a larger group. Apparently so many people come here to eat! Cool!

Anyway, the interior was clean and modern. I liked the farthest part of the wall where it was painted red and white stripes.

Love the details. They have photos (and canvases) of famous quotes on the walls.

So nice!

Now for the main attraction; the food! In fairness, the food are reasonably priced. We got the Rub Beef  P290. It was perfect! The meat was so tender and tasty!

This was their rib Singles plate. It was okay, I liked the Rub Beef better. The side dish, which we got to pick was delicious though. We got the Roasted Garlic Mashed Potato. Yum!

And for dessert, Y ordered the Fried Oreos with Vanilla Icecream for P150. It felt really heavy! Truly a hearty finish to a hearty meal.

Did we like it? Yes! Are we coming back? DEFINITELY SO! Plus points on their servers who were really nice. Thanks, Richard!

DIY: Smores!!!

Okay so over the long holiday, we discovered that housemate J had a LOT of marshmallows left from her Valentine's Day. Yans had a GREAT idea, "Why don't we make some SMORES?" Awesome!

Thus, another D-I-Y tutorial: smores!
Ingredients:

HUGE (camping) marshmallows
Graham crackers

Chocolate bars of course!
(I am a a BIG fan of nuts on my chocolate, so I'm happy I influenced Yans because she loves nuts on her chocolate now, too! We bought an almond variant -- for obvious reasons =D)

Okay since we did this indoors, we improvised a few items. We used chopsticks to skewer the big-ass marshmallows. =)

Slowly (partially) melt the mallow over your gas stove. Try turning the mallow over the flame to melt it all through. TIP: The blacker, stickier, the yummier!

Now do this quick (while the mallow melts): put the mallow on top of a block of graham cracker, top with a piece of chocolate and sandwich with another graham block.

Look at that baby. Yum!

Yans' seven-year old cousin's thumbs up of approval! =)

See how easy it is? You should try it! Watch the carbs though, a smore can be pretty heavy. Hehe Sinfully good!

Pig Out: Leona's Art Restaurant

Last Thursday, we were in the mood for some pizza. And our quest for a good eat-all-you-can pizza restaurant brought us to Sikatuna Village, where we got lost on our way. Haha! But it was okay though, after almost P200 cab fare, we got there.

For P199, we got unlimited pizza. They serve them as a whole though (read: not per slice) so before you get to the next flavor, you have to finish the whole plate first. Challenge accepted! =D

For starters, we were served the Three Cheese Pizza.

Pepperoni Pizza

To counter umay, we decided to order one pasta dish, this Maria Shrimp. (Which later on I realized wasn't a fool-proof plan. We should've gotten a red sauce pasta instead, since white sauce, too causes umay)

Back to pizza, this time Onion and Pesto. It was this time when we experienced what Man vs Food host Adam Richman call a food block. Boy, were we stuffed! But we wanted to try the last pizza, so we said yes to one plate more.

Hawaiian pizza. At this point, we can't take a bite anymore! Haha!

Overall, the food was okay. For P199, I'd say it's sulit. Plus, the place is nice and quiet. (Unless it's filled with a large group of students, which unfortunately for us, it was.) But hey, you're there for the food, right? Aside from pizza, they have other food in the menu that I will try next time for sure!

Viva il Papa!

Found this on the internet just now. I thought I'd share it. So awesome. =) A rare photo of three generations of popes. I'm glad we have a new pope. Viva il Papa! =)

Pig Out: Jade Palace

Over the weekend I was a bit sick. So come Sunday, I was in the mood for noodles and dimsum. Instead of dragging Yans to Chowking with me, we took the opposite direction and went to Jade Palace instead.

I got the Beef Mixed Noodles and the Jumbo siopao. (which reminded me of siopao from Roberto's in Iloilo, ahh college days) Yum!

For dessert, I got the Almond Lychee, which was okay. Remind me again that the Chinese are not known for their desserts. Haha! The place is nice (separate from the main restaurant though) and quiet. Well, aside from the little inglishera girl who kept running around. Staff was nice. This will definitely be on my go-to place for delicious noodles during bad days. =)
